TRAINING RESOURCES

Your best training resource, as always, is your head track or cross country coach. No one knows your unique running history and potential better than your coach, so be sure to lean on them as your primary resource.

We're here to further expand your potential as a runner by sharing the combined knowledge of the Myers brothers and the crew at the Columbus Running Company. Below are some resources we've collected so far to share with you.

An Interview with Grant Robison, NCAA Champion & Olympian

Rob Myers caught up with Olympic miler and NCAA champion Grant Robison.  Grant talks about everything from racing to training to the importance of eating Ben & Jerry’s ice cream the night before competition.  It’s great to hear an Olympian talk about his trashy diet and how we all need to remind ourselves that our running shouldn’t consume us 24/7.  Reward yourself with those Ben & Jerry’s moments – especially now as we wrap up a solid season of mileage and workouts.

PRE-RACE PEP TALK WITH STEPH GARCIA, WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS STEEPLECHASER

The Myers Mile virtual camp ends with a Mile Run to see what you can do. We turned to New Balance steeplechase star Steph Garcia for our pre-race pep talk.  Steph has finished as high as 9th in the world in the steeple, and she shares some wonderful advice about staying positive, how to approach a solo time trial, and what kind of music to include in your pre-race mix.  Check out Steph’s full story in the video below.

Steph loves to run time trials, and she recommends that you treat this just like a major race.  That means sticking to your pre-race dinner plans on Friday night before following a race day routine on Saturday.  Get psyched up and chase that fast mile time to complete your track season!

An Interview with Joe Eby, Baldwin Wallace Track & XC Coach

We caught up with Coach Joe Eby, Baldwin Wallace Track & XC Coach. Coach Eby has built a resume within the sport that includes time with programs at the NCAA Div I and III levels along with the NAIA.  As he built that resume, he coached everywhere from DePauw University and Allegheny College to the University of Nebraska and Sacramento State.  Along the way, he worked with national qualifiers and All Americans at every level, including Aliphine Tuliamuk who just recently won the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon.

Catching up with Olympian Bridget Franek

Today, we are catching up with Olympian Bridget Franek. Bridget won 6 state titles in high school, earned 10 All America awards in college, captured an NCAA title, and qualified for the Olympics. Not bad for a runner from Ohio, huh? We caught up with Franek to learn what it takes to achieve such heights.

An Interview with 3:38 1500m Runner Jake Edwards

Jake Edwards is a former Ohio high school state champ in the mile who went on to run for The Ohio State University. Since graduating, he has qualified for USATF indoor and outdoor nationals, run a string of sub-4 miles, and notched some big finishes including a win at the Drake Relays. We caught up with Jake for the Myers Mile virtual track camp to find out what it takes.

An Interview with Sara & Steve Slattery

Rob Myers catches up with Sara & Steve Slattery. Sara was a multi-time NCAA track champion at Colorado and Steve was a USATF national champion. Both made World Championship teams and now share their stories, experience, and advice with you.

AN INTERVIEW WITH ATHLETIC TRAINER ALEX WINTER

Alex Winter is a Myers Running Camp counselor, former Hilliard Bradley & Otterbein University runner, and a collegiate athletic trainer.  Not only does Alex answer submitted questions in her video interview, but she’s included a breakdown of preventative stretches and exercises for all of us to add into our routine.

An Interview with Theresa Brannen, Big 10 & NCAA Champ

Rob Myers interviews 2-time Ohio high school state champ, Big Ten champ, and NCAA champ Theresa Brannen for the Myers Mile virtual track camp.

We asked Theresa to tell us her about her running story, how she got into running and how it took her to where she was a Big 10 and NCAA Champion, as well as her thoughts on winning as an individual vs. winning as a team and what that culture of a winning team is like. Watch the full video to learn more about what Theresa has to say!

Nate Brannen, Canadian Olympian

Rob Myers interviews 3-time Canadian Olympian Nate Brannen for the Myers Mile virtual track camp.

We asked Nate what kept him going for his 13 year professional running career, and what some of his favorite workouts and moments were during that time.

Nate also talks about some of the world class teammates and coaches he has worked with during his career at Michigan, and as a Pro Runner, as well as dealing with injuries and how he just kept pushing on. Be sure to check out the full video

An Interview with Sara Vergote, The Ohio State University Track & XC Coach

Learn from one of the top distance running coaches in Ohio, Sara Vergote. Sara is a track and cross country coach at The Ohio State University, and her athletes have set school records, qualified for national championships, and built a reputation for OSU within the NCAA.
